Destructive Testing

Destructive testing is a test method conducted to find the exact point of failure of materials, components, or machines. During the process, the tested item undergoes stress that eventually deforms or destroys the material. Naturally, tested parts and materials cannot be reused in regular operation after undergoing destructive testing procedures.

Procedure Qualification Testing

Welding procedures are usually divided into two categories, the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) and the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). Procedure Qualification Records are the documented values used during the actual welding test and all the inspection and test results obtained from the actual test samples.

The test specimen size and dimension must be based on identified values in AWS or ASME Code Sections. After completion of welding and heat treatment (if needed), you need to send the test specimen to the metallurgical lab for mechanical testing. For any PQR, normally two tension tests, four side bends or two root / face bend tests are required.

Weld Procedure Specification

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is the formal written document describing welding procedures, which provides direction to the welder or welding operators for making sound and quality production welds as per the code requirements . The purpose of the document is to guide welders to the accepted procedures so that repeatable and trusted welding techniques are used. A WPS is developed for each material alloy and for each welding type used. Specific codes and/or engineering societies are often the driving force behind the development of a company's WPS. A WPS is supported by a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR)
